President’s Message: Round 0

Hi all Sharks members,

Round 1 is here, so let’s get ready to rumble!!!!! Well not so much rumble, but get out and play??? You know what I mean.  Just on rumbling piece, each year I reinforce the Club’s expectation around player, parent and spectator behaviour.  There is a Code of Conduct, please ensure you have read it and abide by it.  The Sharks name is held high by the league in terms of its administration and professionalism, a reflection of our player and parent behaviour. One bad act taints us all, so just remember this is kids sport and it’s all about them, so enjoy each week and support your players, the team helpers and the club.

2014 Season Launch – Sunday 6 April 2014

This Sunday marks the kick off to the 2014 Season. As has become common practice at the Sharks, the day will culminate in our first social event at Domeney Reserve with food, children’s entertainment, refreshments and raffle prizes for all who attendance and purchase something to eat.  The festivities kick off at 5.30 pm with the focus again being social!  Whilst there will be some formalities, they will be minimal. Hope to see you all there.

Game days

By now should be seeing a lot of information from your Team Managers about game day, etc.  Our website is also a great source of information.  If you ever need to check when and where your child’s team is playing, please refer to the Yarra Junior Football League website, accessible via Fixtures and Ladders page under the Members tab of our website.

Grading

Please be advised that there are always some teething issues in relation to the fixture and team rankings at the start of each season, but these are usually resolved at the end of the grading games around Round 3.  As a club, we are very active in this space endeavouring to ensure the YJFL get things right.  If you have any issues in respect to grading etc., please raise them through your Team Manager to committee and we will have it addressed.  Please don’t go direct to the YJFL, as this is outside their policy.

Teams

As is the case each year, we didn’t quite make getting two teams in our Under 14 age group and have chosen not to run a Youth Girls Team due to a lack of numbers.  That said, we still have 17 teams running around each weekend which is fantastic to see.  Well done all.

SHARK HELPERS – we need you

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and in relation to our committee their great work ends as their children’s junior football club concludes. Last year we saw three committee members leave for that very reason with more expected to go this year. So ask yourself – Is it my turn? If you want to discuss committee and roles vacant or those about to become vacant, please give me a call.

If you have any queries or are able to assist please give me a call. I am really looking forward to seeing you and all your friends in 2014. Go Sharks!
